Week 1
It’s been great to be back together for our final half term in Dolphins Class! We began this week with some RE. Our focus was ‘Preciousness’ and ‘water’. We spent the week thinking about why water is important. We talked about water in relation to animals, people and the planet as a whole. Then we learned about why water is important for Christians. We found out about baptism and performed some baptisms on our class babies.
This half term we will be learning about minibeasts. We kicked off our learning by inviting some tiny baby caterpillars to stay with us! They have already started to grow bigger and reminded us a lot of our Drawing Club character for the week, The Very Hungry Caterpillar.
We found out that different minibeasts thrive in different habitats, called microhabitats. This could be a brick, a wood pile, a flower or a mud pit. We made a minibeast home on a tuff tray and tried to include lots of microhabitats to suit the creatures we found.
We added a centipede, a millipede, a baby ladybird, some snails, slugs and worms. They loved their new home… even when it got soggy in the rain!
In PE we tried to remember the hoop skills we learned earlier on in the year. We rolled, threw, span and hula-hooped with our hoops! We then tried to send our hoops to a partner with more control before playing a game of Sharks.
In maths we learned how to use a new tool - it’s called a rekenrek and it helps us represent numbers on a line. We used the rekenreks really confidently and will be able to use them to help us with our maths learning from now on.
