Computing Curriculum

Our vision for the teaching of Computing

At Catherington Infant School, we use resources and plans recommended by the National Centre for Computing Education (NCCE). This ensures that the children's skills and knowledge are developed term by term, year by year.

In our Computing key knowledge document, you will see what the children are expected to learn each half term and how this knowledge is revisited and built upon throughout their time at Catherington. This information is given in more detail in the year group knowledge organisers in the folders below.

Our E-Safety curriculum runs alongside, and is complementary to, our PSHE teaching and learning. Each half term has its own e-safety focus: Self image & identity; Online relationships;, Online reputation; Online bullying; Managing online information; Health, well-being & lifestyle; Privacy & security and Copyright & ownership.

To inform our teaching, we use resources from the Project Evolve Toolkit. The toolkit is based on the UKCIS framework “Education for a Connected World” (EFACW) and covers knowledge, skills, behaviours and attitudes across eight strands of our online lives from early years right through to eighteen. These outcomes or competencies are mapped to age and progress, and we map out which resources we will use each half term based on the needs of the children. Baseline assessments are carried out as a whole class each term to ensure that we are responding to the needs of each cohort. As a result, the lessons taught may vary from year-to-year, but the overarching strands will remain the same.
