Autumn 1
Week 7
In computing this week, the children were learning to type on a keyboard on the iPads to write their names. They used the app Paintz to first create a text box to type their name into and then they used the shift arrow to write a capital letter to start their names. The children were then asked to draw a picture of themselves to practise using the drawing tools they learnt about last week.
Adventure time!
In music this week, Hazel class had lots of fun playing notes on the glockenspiels and xylophones. They were listening to low, middle and high sounds played using low C, middle G and high C. They then played a little game in small groups. They had to listen carefully to the notes played by one group member and put their hands on their head if they thought the notes was high C, on their tummies if the note was the middle G sound and on their toes if they thought it was the low C.
In maths this week the children have been busy using ten frames and flip counters as well as cherry models and counters to find all of the number bonds to 6 and 7. They were working systematically to make sure they found all of the pairs of numbers and then they write them down as number sentences and completed the models drawn in their books.
We also did some investigating in maths this week where the children were applying their money knowledge to a real life problem.
Week 6
A wonderful week full of adventure time, forest school and learning about the animals we could find on our school field. 🌳🐌
Week 5
Adventure time. This week we have a computing challenge, designing our final page in DT and hunting for full-stops and capital letters using the magnifying glasses. 🔍
Today in maths we were solving problems! We were finding all the partitions for the number five using the skittles and Numicon.🎳
Week 4
Forest school 🌳
Maths
Today, we used a cherry model or a part whole model to partition numbers. We worked as a team and used cubes to show our partitions. 🤩
Adventure time!
A wonderful start to the week! Today, Hazel class started their new tasks. The children discussed technology, practised tricky words, wrote about a superhero and practised joining techniques in DT. We also had fun painting our hands in preparation for our Christmas cards to be sent off! 🎄Well done! 🌟
Week 3
We had lots of fun during adventure time this week and there were lots of golden tickets given out on Friday!
The children explored their cutting skills by cutting out a badger, a snake or a fox and glueing it together. They also had fun playing in the mud kitchen, with the hoops and in the sand pit outside. We were very lucky to be able to do some map work in Geography during our adventure time, using our new enormous map of Catherington that one of our lovely parents printed for us. Thank you! It was excellent! We are now ready to explore the human and physical features of Catherington on our walk on Wednesday afternoon.
Maths!
Reading and phonics
This afternoon, we had our first outdoor P.E lesson. We used balls and beanbags to practise our throwing and catching. 🏏
Today we've had lots of fun starting our new challenges, using conkers in maths to support our counting and writing all about Mr Benn! 🌿
Week 2
What an exciting week the Hazel class have had! They have been very busy during adventure time, completing the challenges set by their teachers and earning their lollipop sticks. Lots of children earned themselves a golden ticket for their hard work this week, having collected 5 different coloured sticks.
Here are some pictures of what they have been up to.
Week 2 Forest school 🌳🌳🌳
A wonderful first Monday back! Today we learnt about adding one more in maths, wrote a description about the gingerbread man and looked for signs of Autumn in science. Well done Hazel! 🍁🍂🍁
Welcome back Hazel Class! We hope you have all had a lovely summer. Here are some photos from our transition day. ☀️☀️
