Week 1
What a busy first week back!
We were very lucky to see lots of ice and even some snow at the start of the week. We collected ice and enjoyed seeing what happened when we hit it, dropped it and held it in our warm hands.
We started learning new phonemes in phonics. We learned ai, ee, igh and oa and worked hard to read and write words containing these sounds.
We began to learn about different materials and went on a hunt around the school. We found a lot of wood, plastic, metal and glass. In Discovery Time we put different materials in water to see what would happen. We found out that sponges, paper towels and cloths are absorbent.
In maths we looked at the number 0. We remembered that zero means 'nothing' and that it is 'one less than one'. We played games with dice and number tracks, matched numerals to towers, sang about five little monkeys and explored different representations of 0.
We also learned a new Trickbox trick called Floating Cloud. This trick helps us to calm down if we feel cross.
