Learning together for tomorrow’s world

Week beginning 1st June

The mini topic for this week is The Seaside. We will be thinking about what it is like at the seaside, how to be safe in the sun and what lives in a rockpool.

Below are lots of activity ideas we will be doing in the classroom.

We will be reading the story of Soggy the bear and then making up own adventures for Soggy to go on and writing sentences about our story. (Soggy the bear story as powerpoint attached)

In Phonics everyday we are singing the Phase 4 Tricky words song on the website Epic phonics. We will be making longer words and reading them, words like tent, bend, mend, hump, bent, damp, bench, burnt, joint, limp, dent. We will also use the Phase 4 yes/no powerpoint attached.

In Maths we will be counting amounts correctly and practice writing numbers to match. The treasure hunt sheet attached will be used to teach the children how to make a tally chart. We will also be practicing adding two amounts together. You could use the maths activity pack attached.

We will be learning the meaning of 6 new words about the seaside and talking about the seaside and rockpool powerpoints. In Outodor explorers we will be looking for different summer colours and finding things to match them. We will draw and label them, sheet attached.

We will be practicing to form these cursive letters correctly l, t, i, u, j, y and learning how to spell our surnames. We will also be learning the names of the letters of the alphabet, not just their sounds.
Remember you can use the website Oxford Owl to find reading books for your child to read every day. We will be using this at school too. If you need more Teddy words, the whole list is attached here.
