Learning together for tomorrow’s world

Summer 1 2019

Week Five

This week we have finished off our Uganda topic by learning about the music and instruments in Uganda.

Some of us made up our own band. We enjoyed dancing to the music.

Some of the boys were really excited when they found a slug and they made him a little home. Unfortunately the slug escaped from its home that night!

Our vegetables are growing really well. The children are really good at remembering to water them.

Playing games together in Discovery Time.

In phonics this week we have been practicing writing words with 4 or 5 letters. We have tried really hard to hear and write all the sounds.

We practiced writing letters correctly on the playground with chalk. It was lovely in the sunshine.

Cooking dinner in the mud kitchen.
The best part of the week was our treat afternoon. Look how much fun we had!

Week 4

This week we have been learning about how we can care for the wonderful world. We learnt that some Christians believe that God made the world and that humans were put on the earth to protect the world and all the animals and plants within it.

We went to the field to take pictures of the beautiful things we could see in nature.

Some of us had a go at making animals from playdough. Can you guess what they are?

We have also been learning about the charity TUSK. They help to protect animals in Africa. We were thinking about how they protect the Elephants from hunters and wrote letters to them to ask them to stop. Our letters are in our writing books if you want to have a look at them.

The boys have been checking on the plants everyday and watering them. Apparently on Thursday they were as dry as a pancake!
Our aeroplane role play area has changed into a Uganda fruit market. We had great fun making it and now we are enjoying playing in it.

Week 3

This week we have been learning about the animals in Uganda and Africa.

In Maths we have been learning about how to half objects and amounts. We had to cut some fruit from Uganda in half fairly. We decided we should cut it down the middle and make sure each side was the same size.

Then we ate them!
We loved having our mums in the classroom to play with us during discovery time. Thank you for coming.
We have been working hard in phonics to read and write 4 and 5 letter words. We are finding this tricky but showing lots of courage and trying really hard.

This week we have been learning about the people in Uganda. We looked at some clothes that some African people might wear and some of us even tried them on. We were amazed at how colourful they were. We talked about how different some people are in Africa then us.

The boys have been very busy looking after our vegetables and then they planted some Leeks, lettuce, mint and carrots. They watered them and we hope they will start growing soon.
In Maths we have been practicing our doubling again this week by designing our own Safari parks for Uganda. All the animals kept doubling so we had to make sure we had the right amount! Pop in to the classroom anytime to see some of the safari parks on the wall.
Don’t forget Stay and Read, every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday until 8.50am.

Welcome back Dolphins

I hope you all had a wonderful Easter break.

Week 1

We have started our new topic this week learning all about the world. We have had lots of fun learning about the names of different countries and making flags.

Look how busy we were in Discovery time this week.
