The latest news from Ramathan is that the local area is still in lockdown. COVID cases are rising, so children are continuing to try to learn at home and local businesses are closed. Home learning for children in Katunguru can be tricky because lots of the families there don’t have access to screens, so the teachers have to think of different ways for their students to complete learning out of school.
As many people living in Katunguru rely on tourism to earn money, times are very difficult, but everyone is doing their best to get by. For example, when Ramathan isn’t teaching, he runs ‘game drives’ so that people can experience the wild animals in Queen Elizabeth National Park. He took some photographs of a game drive he ran last week and sent them over for us to enjoy.
In worship time last week, the children asked me to tell Ramathan all about our sports day. He loved hearing about the different activities we did and the fun we had! I have learned that Katunguru School also runs a sports day each year. The children take part in football, netball and sprinting competitions, with the winning house being rewarded at the end.
