Daily English Ideas

Below are a list of suggested websites and tasks you may like to do with your child during lockdown. We appreciate that everyone's situation is different so use these resources to best suit you. 
Reading
Oxford Owl

After signing up to Oxford Owl, you can have free access to hundreds of e-books that can be chosen to suit age, book band colour or phonic level. These stories can be read to the child or by the child and offers comprehension activities for each book. The site also offers a range of differentiated phonic and spelling activities for Year 1 and Year 2 children.

Hampshire Services
The Hampshire Advisory Service have collated some advice and thinking to generate some ideas and activities to help support children with their reading. Below are some suggested reading response ideas and a selection of books to help support comprehension
Education Endowment Foundation
The Education Endowment Foundation have created a useful comic strip to help guide parents when reading with their child
David Walliams Elevenses
Enjoy listening to David Walliams as he reads extracts from his stories on a daily basis. Missed part of the current story, no problem with a weekly catch up. Why not do one of the many fun activities related to his books. 
Julia Donaldson
Julia Donaldson is reading one of her stories every Thursday at 9am with the help of some friends. Like her Facebook page to watch them live or catch up.
Phonics Play
A vast range of phonics games, activities and resources to help children with the key phonic skills that vital for reading and spelling. These resources are broken down into the different phases following  Letters and Sounds.
Writing
Hampshire Services
Like for reading, the Hampshire Advisory Service have created some suggested activities and ideas to help support children with their writing. Below are a sequence of lessons around specific books as well as some suggested writing ideas. Each book should last around a week.
BBC Bitesize
BBC Bitesize offers a vast range of lessons, activities and games. The English section is differentiated by year groups. It can be used as a sequence of learning through daily activities, games and worksheets or used as a single lesson on a specific area.
Education City
Education City offers a wide range of activities and games across many different areas of the curriculum. we have a free login for a month which has been sent out to everyone. 
KIDS Classroom secrets
After creating a free account, Classroom Secrets offers a range of different  games and quizzes to help support reading comprehension, spellings and grammar and punctuation for Years 1 and 2.  Year 1 children can also access a range of different phonic activities and games.
Oak National Academy
Oak National Academy has created a series of 5 sequenced lessons across different writing genres for Year 1 and 2 children. These can be used across a week of dipped into for a focus on a particular skill. Oak National Academy also provides  different sequence of lessons for other areas of the curriculum for Reception, Year 1 and 2
